Former US President Bill Clinton has been leading the campaign to help rebuild Haiti through the Clinton Global Initiative.
Taxback.com’s office in Haiti is based in the Digicel building in Port-au-Prince, one of the few buildings least affected by the earthquake in the capital city. Thankfully all seven taxback.com staff are accounted for.
The company’s Haiti Office Manager Paddy Doyle returned to Ireland on Tuesday January 19th.
“I was up on the top level. When it happened it was just a colossal power, it all happened so quickly, so violently…one minute I’m in the office with one of my staff members discussing how we’re going to move forward for the month of January and the next thing we were running for our lives to get to the stairs,” Doyle says.
“Once we got outside it started to register with me what was happening – it was just sheer devastation out on the streets – bodies everywhere, people screaming for help. It’s so hard to register because it was everywhere.”
“The issue at the moment is how we can push forward to help. My focus will be on the children of Haiti now – so many kids have lost their parents – how they’re going to cope with that, whose going to take care of them.
